Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of fiber reinforcement on the extrudability/buildability of mortars with an alternative rheometer-based simulation method. Mortars reinforced with an innovative high tenacity polymeric fiber and w/o fiber are prepared. The subjected shear rate history of mortars throughout the extrusion pipe is simulated with aid of a rheometer equipped by a dragging ball. Shear rate dependent variation of shear stress and viscosity values as a function of time have been measured. These parameters are associated with the expected shear rates at longitudinal axis of extrusion pipe. Critical points where cross section changes at longitudinal direction are determined and effect of shear rate variation on rheological parameters is discussed. Extrudability and buildability coefficients are proposed based on shear stress and viscosity values at these critical points throughout the extrusion pipe. Test results revealed that fiber reinforcement has a paramount effect on rheological parameters of mortars where proposed simulation method is capable of precisely detect the buildability of fiber-reinforced mortars.
