Abstract
Three-dimensional concrete printing (3DCP) shows much potential for the construction industry. With rising building costs across the world, there is a need for innovative technologies and processes that can provide affordable housing options. Therefore, 3DCP has been used as a viable solution for affordable housing because this technology can decrease costs, time, labor, and construction waste. However, the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry requires a skilled workforce equipped with competencies for working with 3DCP technology. This paper first provides a review of current literature to identify key focus areas associated with the adoption of 3DCP in the AEC industry. The researchers then conduct a focus group study of seven AEC experts in 3DCP to identify key competencies required for the AEC workforce in adopting 3DCP technology for affordable housing. Findings reveal requisite knowledge and skills that are critical for successful adoption of 3DCP for affordable housing through workforce development.
