Abstract
Over the last two decades, significant attention has been given to exploring the use of additive manufacturing in the building and construction industry, with a primary emphasis on sustainability. This exploration has specifically focused on the integration of green technology, the use of eco-friendly practices, and the incorporation of recycled materials. This concise review examines the recent progress and research initiatives related to 3D concrete printing, emphasizing its role in promoting sustainable construction practices, covering a wide range of essential inquiries, including innovations in materials, advancements in printing technology, and their capacity to provide cost-effective and environmentally friendly solutions to current challenges. Noteworthy studies highlighted in this review involve the application of waste tyre-derived materials to improve concrete characteristics, the use of eco-friendly earth-based blends comprising rice husk, marble waste, ash, silica and soil for 3-D printing and the refinement of binder formulations for increased sustainability. Additionally, practical uses of 3D printing, such as creating machine tool bases, are also discussed.
