Abstract
3D printing technology in construction has been widely developing around the world due to the possibility to solve the labor shortage issue in construction industry. There are a few technologies that can be used in construction such as extrusion and binder jetting technologies. In this work, the 3D extrusion printing technology is determined. It is found that one of the major technology components for 3D extrusion printing in construction emphasizes on cement-based extrusion materials which come into a huge interests for many researchers. Although the 3D printing technology is conceptually applied in the today’s construction, much work is required to be further investigated and implemented. This is because not only do the material properties exhibit distinguishably from conventional concrete mixtures, but also design and construction concepts are altered from a traditional construction practice. Siam Cement Group has been incubating such technology for many years and has built 3D printing curvature single-layered wall panels fabricated as a guardhouse located at the facility. The novel of this construction is in term of design of a curved singular wall layer which is not ubiquitous in existing 3D printed curved wall, and its benefits of using the 3D printing curved singular wall panel is to reduce its weight, require less material, and faster operation. In this work, its printing and fabrication processes of the existing material performance characteristics are described. Prior to fabrication, structural analysis is operated under a finite element modelling program. With superior performance of the 3D printing material, the structure can be secured for structural loading and transporting. It is concluded that this work can offer a huge impact on further progression of such technology towards the feasible construction market in the future.
