Abstract
This study investigates the feasibility of 3D printing asphalt concrete for road and bridge engineering, using the following methods to optimise the properties: adjusting the fine to coarse aggregate ratio to 50:50 to enhance the mechanical properties; exploring the optimal mechanical properties at a printing frequency of 1.5Hz and a temperature of 170 °C; and comparing the properties of ordinary asphalt with those of SBS-modified asphalt. The results showed that the optimised ratio and process parameters significantly improved the strength, and the SBS-modified asphalt performed better, especially in terms of bonding and toughness. The appropriate amount of asphalt improves the microstructure, enhances the concrete compactness and overall strength, and provides theoretical and technical support for the application of 3D printed asphalt concrete.
